Day 31 - Chiang Mai to Sukothai

Left Chiang Mai at 12pm after 3 crazy nights of partying with Daniel.

Headed southwards on highway 11 until Lampang where I stopped for a break and try to consume some of the tidbits a bought the previous night. The sweet potato still tasted great after 2 days in the fridge.

Nearing to Phrae, I turned towards highway 101 which is I feel is kind of barren as I can't find a single roadside store to get myself a drink until I reached Si Radxxx town at 5pm where I took my first meal of the day. Pork noodles for only 25B. Everything is cheaper in the non- touristed towns.

Reached Sukothai town at 6.30pm
and checked in to Xxx hotel which is beside the river for 350B a night but it has no wifi.

Had a simple dinner of fried rice at 'garden house restaurant' while I utilize their wifi to update my blog as I had been too damn drunk for the past few nights and there had been no updates. All thanks to Daniel and his bar hopping adventures.

Sukothai is really a small quiet town. Most of the shops are closed after 10pm with the exception of the street hawkers. Good for me as I'm always hungry.

Seems the whole town is asleep with the exception of 'vandal bar' so I go there for more beer. Nice place but I'm
really feeling tired so I go back after one beer.

Day 30 - Relax @ Chiangmai (Loy Kratong)

The Loy Kratong festival in Chiang Mai is absolutely massive. It's as if Thailand has won the World Cup

I went with Daniel to the Ping riverside where there were many people lighting and releasing the sky lanterns. To find the exact location of the sky lantern release site, we simply rode our motorcycles towards the direction of the lantern release.

Many people were playing with fireworks and sky lanterns. We simply stood there admiring the spectacle and the pretty girls there. I was certainly excited as this is my first time participating in this event. It's simply stunning and I would encourage everyone to try this at least once.

We didn't have any lanterns so we had to buy them from vendors who were selling them by the roadside. I bought mine for 40B from a girl on condition that she would release the lantern with me.

We were there for hours after which we went to the night bazaar for beer and food. There were still many lanterns in the sky when we went back at 2am.

Lastly, we went to 'Lucky disco' which was recommended to us but we didn't like the place and left after a couple of drinks as we were really exhausted from standing for so many hours.

Day 29 - Relax @ Chiang Mai (Doi Inthanon)

Woke up at 12pm after a very late night yesterday with Daniel who had flown in from Singapore last night. Had lunch with him before we set off on our bikes for Doi Inthanon (Thailand's highest peak)

After a tedious and bumpy 3 hour ride, we reached the summit at about 5pm. Along the way, the scenery was stunning but it was freezing cold as we rode our little bikes up the mountain. Daniel was so cold that he lost control of his Honda wave and crashed. Lucky he only suffered some abrasions on his arm and was able to continue riding.

After our photo taking session at the 'highest peak' landmark, we went to the cafe to get some hot drinks. To our horror, the temperature was only 5 degrees celsius and he came up with his t-shirt only. Haha! On the way down the mountain, he stopped to buy a ski cap and gloves.

It was pitch dark as we made our decent from the mountain but luckily I
had my hid spotlights.

I'm getting lazier as the days pass. Too lazy to take photos of the city as I've been to Chiangmai few times previously. If not for the Loy Kratong celebrations tomorrow, I'll move on already.
